[Hevel] Eilot Regional Council, Israel's southernmost regional council, is located in the south district of the southern Negev. The Council comprises 12 settlements, including 10 kibbutzim [collective settlements]. It extends over an area of roughly 2.2 million dunams (2200 sq.km). The average distance between all the council settlements is 19.6 km. The Council comprises 14 members and is chaired by Udi Gat. The main city of the district, a separate local authority unto itself, is Eilat. This council was once called "The Southern Arava Regional Council".
